EVERYBODY has ideas.
To write effectively, you have to love the words that give your ideas shape. Spend time and sweat on them. Learn how the masters have done it. Of course your heart and soul is in your universe! Believe me: your heart and soul had better be in your paragraph. Every sentence has the potential to open the reader's mind. Love the words and care for them, or no one is going to give a damn about your ideas, even if they're about how to turn phone bills into gasoline.

If you want to learn how to breathe new life into a hackneyed sci-fi cliche, Michael Swanwick is the man to study. His "Legions In Time" (from The Dog Said Bow-Wow) is my new favorite time travel story, and a time travel story is one of my favorite things. His prose is skillful, and nearly everything he writes takes the reader from familiarity to surprising originality.

I got home today and first thing he does is run out in front of a motorcycle. I about had a heart attack. Fortunately we live on a cul-de-sac so the bike was going very slow. I think he got comfortable around motorcycles as Karen and I have bikes.
What is a parent to do?

It's funny, I hadn't thought of it until now, but my dog's picture is apropos for Ken's Starstrikers web page as his name is Striker. He is a great little guy. I keep trying to teach him how to read so he can enjoy all the great Sci-fi that is out there, but all he is interested in is chasing a tennis ball and running up and down the creek in our back yard.
I have lots of pictures of Striker I could share if you are interested.
Actually, I originally owned that domain back in 1998 and later let the domain go. The owner of it now took it in 2003. So if copyrighting is an issue, I had the name first.

But since John Porter's use of the title is for a YA comic book that has a completely different plot line, I doubt there is much cause for concern. A few years ago I tried to email him and he blew me off, so I never tried again.
Besides, we are both unpublished, near as I can tell.
